Activism: 1% for the Planet

Kalamazoo Vintage: Fashion with Purpose, Our Pledge

At Kalamazoo Vintage, we believe that our responsibility goes beyond offering sustainable fashion. We’re committed to addressing the growing environmental crisis, starting with the problem of second-hand clothing waste in Africa, especially in places like Ghana, where oceans and landfills are overflowing with discarded garments and plastics.

Fast fashion's non-biodegradable clothes, particularly polyester, are shipped to countries like Ghana under the guise of charity, only to end up polluting the environment. This waste harms marine life and contributes to the degradation of local communities.

What We Support:

  • Ocean Cleanup Initiatives in Ghana: We back efforts to clear clothing and plastic waste from Ghana's coastlines and oceans, helping restore these critical ecosystems.
  • Waste Reduction Projects: Our focus is on supporting innovative projects that recycle or repurpose plastics and second-hand clothes, creating sustainable solutions that benefit both the environment and the economy.
  • Community-Driven Environmental Action: We believe in grassroots initiatives that bring real change to local communities, from reducing waste to protecting marine life and ecosystems.

Our Commitment:

We pledge to donate 1% of sales from our Kalamazoo Rework collection to support these initiatives. We also aim to work closely with organizations in Ghana and the UK that are leading efforts to combat waste and protect the planet.

At Kalamazoo Vintage, we embrace inclusivity. We do not discriminate based on age, race, gender, or background—everyone deserves a cleaner, healthier environment. Our goal is to reduce waste, restore ecosystems, and promote a more sustainable way of living through fashion.

If you're working on a project that’s making a positive impact on the environment, we’d love to hear about it! Share it with us—we want to feature your work and contribute through our 1% pledge Join us in the movement.
